World of WearableArt: Where Creativity Comes to Life

Part art exhibition and part arena spectacle, WOW is where imagination takes centre stage.

What begins as a single wearable artwork evolves into something much bigger. Under dazzling lights, amid soaring music, dance, aerial choreography and immersive visual effects, extraordinary creations come alive before an audience of 60,000 people. The result is a breathtaking arena experience often described as "Broadway meets Cirque du Soleil" and unlike any traditional theatre, fashion, or art event.  

Every garment featured on stage is a finalist in the prestigious WOW Competition, the world's leading wearable art competition. Designers from around the globe compete for international recognition and the opportunity to see their creations realised as part of New Zealand's largest arena spectacle. Some are established artists and fashion designers; others are students, engineers, architects or passionate creatives pursuing a bold idea. What unites them is a willingness to challenge convention and see possibilities where others see limitations.

More than one million people have experienced WOW since its beginnings nearly four decades ago, making it one of New Zealand's most celebrated cultural events.  

Yet WOW is as much about place as it is performance.  

Set on Wellington's vibrant waterfront, the event offers visitors the opportunity to experience the creative heartbeat of New Zealand. The city is renowned for its arts, culture, cuisine and cinematic innovation, home to world-leading creative enterprises including Wētā Workshop. During WOW season, restaurants buzz, hotels fill with visitors, and the city comes alive with a shared sense of anticipation and excitement.
